Born in 1981, in Ajman, United Arab Emirates, Diaa Allam lives and works in Sharjah, United Arab Emirates. Allam graduated from Cairo University in 2006 with a bachelor’s degree in Urban Design and Landscape Architecture. As well as an urban planner, he is an Arabic calligrapher with a specialisation in 3-D calligraphy, a live art performer and the founder of Naht Designs. He sources the darkest and brightest pigments from locations around the world to create his calligraphy illusions.
Diaa has taken part in large-scale projects in the United Arab Emirates and the GCC, including the Guinness World Record for the Largest Glow in the Dark Mural, in Ras Al Khaimah, and the Mother of the Nation Festival in Abu Dhabi (2016–18). Diaa is a recipient of the Cultural Foundation Art Residency 2020.
